Rubbing shoulders with a team of architects & engineers and providing them with effective façade access system.
Architecture, structures and construction runs strong in my family history over many generations, and it is no wonder it has played a major part in my learning from doing DIY with my father to holiday jobs and then into full time employment back in the UK and then NZ. Travel is a great way to see the many different aspects of architecture, from the cottages of Yorkshire, St Paul’s Cathedral - London, Notre Dame - Paris, World Trade Centre - New York, Beijing Skyline, cosmopolitan metropolis of Mumbai and to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Attention to detail is critical and to be able to provide effective but simplistic solutions, blending these in with the architectural element of the project is so important. Being able to understand the various elements is critical to a great working relationship with the architect & contractor. I clearly remember when I started in my first fulltime role, working under a senior engineer, draftsman and craftsman, being instructed to practice the art of handwriting, a skill needed for traditional draftsman work.
“Rather than looking at height safety as a bolt on solution, make it a feature and integrate it into the architectural element of the building.”
Working in the height safety and façade access sector has provided an excellent platform to bring the broad range of skills together to ensure the safety all when working at height. Complex projects have always fascinated me, not only in their design but location, as they provide a challenge, this has provided me with the opportunity to work in several countries including Papua New Guinea, Niue, Solomon Island and China.
Being part of a growing team at Alta Safety is awesome, passionate about height safety, caring for all those around us and the opportunity to use our initiative to provide solutions is essential to a happy working environment.
However, it isn’t all work and no play, with our four growing children life is always busy and nothing better than being able to enjoy the freedom of the surrounding Canterbury countryside with my wife and family through all the seasons.
